Egnater Rebel mark II review and comparison to the original rebel Thread starter changeling Start date Apr 18, Messages In comparing the Mark II rebel to the original this is what i have found. The new one does have more gain. Not just with the HG switch engaged. The regular classic mode still has more gain to it. With this you get a little more sustain and meanness in the notes. It has more presence and push to it's sound stage. The trade off's and shortcomings are that it sounds less open and clear, than the original Rebel.
The sound seems to come all the way through and bloom with the original. The mark II sounds a bit congested, and i found i had to turn the mids down to try to get more clarity out of it. It also does not sound as smooth.
It has more in your face presence. But lacks the three dimensional open laid back sound of the original. It can possibly trick you into thinking it sounds better with more gain. But somehow it sounds less balanced. The original has a different touch sensitivity to it.
You can really play hard and percussive to make it sound powerful. Or you can slowly milk sounds out of it. The mark II has more of an immediate feel to it's tone. The original you have to work harder to make it rock. It's not detailed gain at that point more of just overs pill. Everything the Mark II does it does with a trade off.
